Parking Tickets and the DMV
If you don’t pay a parking ticket, it will not just go away. In addition to getting sent to a collection agency, the DMV will do everything it can to get you to pay the ticket or face the consequences.
While the ticket will not directly impact your driving record, if you don’t pay the fine, you will be unable to renew your license plate and won’t get a renewal sticker until you do—which means that any time you drive, you will be driving illegally.
License Forfeiture Suspension
A license forfeiture suspension is imposed when a person is charged with a first, second, third, or fourth degree misdemeanor and either fails to appear in court or fails to pay a court fine.
Reinstatement Requirements
- Official court release for the license forfeiture
- Pay a reinstatement fee
Warrant Blocks
A municipal or county court may send the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) a report for any person for whom there is an outstanding warrant. The person will be denied the ability to apply for or to renew a driver license or vehicle registration.
Reinstatement Requirements
- Official court release for the warrant block
- Pay a reinstatement fee
Habitual Use of Alcohol/Drugs Suspension
A person has three or more convictions of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance within a three-year period.
Reinstatement Requirements
The suspension will stand until the person:
- Completes a treatment/rehabilitation program
- Maintains six months of sobriety from date of treatment program completion
- Submits a completed Alcohol/Drug Reinstatement form (BMV 2326) to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV)
Temporary Identification Cards
A temporary ID card can only be issued if you are under suspension and your license is not expired. It can be used with driving privileges. A temporary ID card cannot be issued if there is a warrant block on your record
