4th of July Celebration Plans Still Underway

The planning for the 25th Annual "Thunder In The Valley", 4th of July celebration fireworks is still underway despite the COVID-19 pandemic. We are monitoring the situation closely and consulting with public health professionals for their guidance.

Social distancing will cause some changes this year,

  • No food vendors will be operating on the Hocking College Campus
  • No bleacher seating will be available on the Hocking College Campus
  • No public restrooms will be available on the Hocking College Campus
  • Parking on the Hocking College Campus maybe limited

If all goes well at 10:00p.m., the THUNDER IN THE VALLEY", FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR will begin. This year’s display will be presented by the Nelsonville Division of Fire. The firefighters have promised a 25-minute display of shells, to dazzle all the senses, and sure to get uuhs and oohs from everyone viewing the display.

The safety of the public has always been and will continue to be our biggest concern. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and post updates to our website and Facebook Page. Thank you for your support and understanding. We will get through this working together.

Report Non-Emergency Issues 24/7

Text “Hi” to 740-265-3858 to get started

The City of Nelsonville is rolling out a new way to use your mobile phone’s text messaging to report non-emergency issues and find answers to your questions 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

All you have to do is text “Hi” to 740-265-3858 to get started, and a series of texts will guide you through the reporting process.

The new “TextMyGov” service, which is already in operation, will allow residents to quickly report non-emergency issues such as a street light problem, a pothole, discarded trash, or a road problem and even upload a photo if desired.

The system also allows users to search for contact information for key city officials.

“It’s an easy way for people to report simple actions to us,” Acting City Manager Scott Frank said. “Texting is very efficient and probably preferred by some citizens. For us internally, the citizen’s message is converted into a service request that is more easily managed by our staff.”

To report a complex issue, however, Scott recommends that residents still call the office at 740-753-1314 Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may leave a voice mail after regular business hours.

Monday, June 1 at 7:00 pm

Nelsonville City Council will meet in Special Session, Monday, June 1, 2020 at 7PM. The purpose of the meeting is to interview City Manager candidates. The interviews will take place during Executive Session. There is a possibility of action after council returns from Executive Session.

The meeting will be streamed on the City of Nelsonville Facebook Page (City of Nelsonville, Ohio, @nelsonvillecity).
