Baileys Trail System Working Group
Nelsonville Community Meeting
Wednesday, November 7, 6 pm - 7 pm, Stuart's Opera House
The Baileys Trail System Working Group is asking members of the community to attend an engagement meeting on Wednesday, November 7, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Stuart’s Opera House. The purpose of this meeting is to provide residents with an overview of the Baileys Trail Project, including planned connections to Nelsonville, and to discuss how residents would like to be involved in the project. Anyone who wants to learn about the trail system, ask questions, and prepare for the potential benefits is encouraged to attend.
During the meeting there will be a brief presentation about the Baileys Trail System that includes an overview of the project, current status, and the opportunities for the community. After the presentation there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and engage in general discussion. Representatives from Nelsonville, Wayne National Forest, Athens County, Rural Action, and the Baileys Working Group will be in attendance.
The Baileys Trail System is a proposed 88-mile trail system on 9,000 acres of the Athens District of the Wayne National Forest with direct connections to Nelsonville, Chauncey, Doanville, and Buchtel. The trail system is within 250 miles of 35 million people – nearly 15% of the US population. With the trail system estimated to spur visitation of 180,000 visitors per year, the first decade of operation is expected to generate $29.5 million in local economic spending, $8.6 million in additional wage, $6.9 million in increased government revenue and more than 60 jobs
Light refreshments will be provided by Nelsonville Emporium
